Hi from Forest Hill, MD. I have written before to you and have been on your mailing list for years now. Just wanted to let you know I loved your most recent album. And would love to get up North to see you perform... Now for a quick pair of questions. On your discography page you only list 2 videos. But way back when I was in college '81-'87 I remember that I was watching MTV on the University Center Big Screen in '81 or '82 and saw a video for 'Say Goodbye'. Please tell me I am not imagining this. That one video hooked me as a fan for life. And the Song stuck in my head for so long that I went out right away to the local record shop near my school (UMBC)to grab Imitation Life. My wife and I even had that song played at our wedding in '88. Also might you know if any of you early video's are compiled or for sale anywhere? Best wishes for the new year and our love, Harold

Harold That's funny about Say Goodbye. Now that you mention it, in 1982 I went down to New York with Leroy from my band and MTV shot that film of us right there in the studio. WOW. Wonder where I can get a copy of that. I was around 5 months pregnant. In those days the music industry was not big on women being preggers and rockin out. I was trying to hide it.....ha ha ha.

Robin, just wanted to say thanks for all of your music. Just joyfully downloaded 'Imitation Life' from Amazon, and now I've got everything of yours on my Ipod. Your music is timelessly terrific. (And you're the best to rollerblade to.) Carol

Hello Robin! The last time I saw you perform was in 1980 at a club in Worcester, I think... It has been a long time. I had a front row view... and it was an incredible experience for me, being the first time I had ever had such a view! After many years searching, to no avail, (perhaps because I thought the song title was "How do I satisfy" LOL)I finally discovered two Chartbuster albums at a used record store located in Westfield MA. in 1998: 'Robin Lane and the Chartbusters' and '5 Live' ... Each was still in the original jacket and in excellent shape (Yes... I still use a phonograph!) I was thrilled to say the least! If you are ever in Southwest Nebraska, give me a holler. You sound great. It was my great pleasure to see you perform.

I was at the show when they recorded 5 Alive. You opened for Hall and Oates at the Orpheum Theater. It was unbelievable. When I walked to my seats, WBCN had their sound board on my seats because they were taping or broadcasting live. They gave me courtesy seats and moved me to the front. Lucky me. I was out of my mind. I also remember when you played at CCRI in Warwick RI another great show. My friend was wearing a yankees cap that he gave to you that you put on and he went nuts. Also my good friend that worked with me at the Post Office in Providence, Patrick Toher who was part of The Shake, used to talk about his time playing with you. What a thrill that must have been for him. I will never forget those early 80 years. There was such a hoopla and buzz around town, at least for me and the people who I hung with, about this band from Boston, Robin Lane and the Chartbusters. I look back on my life and it always goes to this time period because your music was what we enjoyed and loved. One last trip down memory lane. I was outside the original living room in Providence one night sitting in my 69 Ford Mustang, when you and the band came from around the building to take the stage. It was pouring rain that night and I held my 8 track out the window of my car and you came over and signed it for me. It was the thrill of my life. I still have that 8 track to this day.

Robin, Dan Fassett has referred me to you as a Traprock Center activist! I would love to learn how we could get Traprock connected with The MA Campaign for a U.S. Department of Peace. I have tried at times, but not really succeeded as I am overextended! Folks out there could organize a campaign for getting Senator Kerry to introduce a bill in the senate, similar to HR 808 in the House, just filed for the 5th time! I would love to hear your music! Robin, For as long as I can remember, every day, the chords and those first words "when things go wrong" play in my head. Every day I hear them. I first heard the song while coming back from a date in Millbury MA in my 67 olds cutlass convertible. It had a 4 speed and was a fun car. I remember winding it out on a backroad with your song blasting. Thanks again for the memory every day.

Hey! I was looking for circa '80 video of you and the Chartbusters on Youtube. I wish you or your fans would put up some tape. You played a special event at my high school (Manchester Central High in Manchester, NH) in 1980 and over the years I never put away my much loved and much played copy of Robin Lane and the Chartbusters. I just wanted you to know how well I think it stands the test of time. Couple of tunes, When Things Go Wrong and Why Do You Tell Lies have made the jump to iTunes, and are reportedly quite happy in regular rotation. Best to you.

Your grandmother, Vivian, and my father, Charles, were brother & sister.I was 80 yearts old on 10/25. There were questions, and answers, I would like to have asked and had answered by them which have been left unanswered-- that went to the grave with them. I remember Vivian, Bill, Bobby, Betty, Ken, Joe and a great deal more about the Harris side of the family. I lived in Detroit from 29-44, LA in 47-48 (going to UCLA and baby sitting with you on occasion)-- Ken getting me into the early broadcasts of "Your Hit Parade"--and much more. I have lived in Miami most of the years since 49. I last visited Betty and Kit "about" 20 years or so ago. If you are interested you may e-mail me or call me @ 305-682-1938. I want and expect nothing. You would be my 2nd cousin. I was known in my younger days as "Skip." Best wishes, Charlie Harris

I was a college DJ in 1980-81 and I often played and listened to 'Robin Lane and the Chartbusters' and I thought my favorite song off that album was entitled 'Idiot' with the lyrics going 'I'm just an idiot over you', Did it actually have a different title? Also the promo copy I saw had different cover art/ Is this the same album as is listed on this site? BTW I was delighted to finally find you on line as I have googled your name regularly since mid 90's because the album I had a copy of disappeared

Hello Robin, I came across this message board by accident, but knew who you were because your Dad told me about you when I visited him in Tahoe many years ago. I am a cousin(?) of yours. Actually, Ken's mother, Anne, was my father's (Phil) sister. It would be a pleasure to meet or at least communicate with you. I know we never met, but that is pretty typical of our family. Not very big on Family. E-mail me when you can>

Robin- When I was living in Cambridge around 1980 I seem to remember someone playing a cassette recording of you guys performing "The Wild Places" (Duncan Browne song). I do not see it listed on any of the albums. Is this a song you performed, and if so is there a recording of it available? I would love to have it!
Robin on Monday March 1, 2010 at 10:10:29 PM wrote:
Dear Chuck, I think I have a copy of that. It's great I have to say. So much better than any studio recording we did. We will put some of that into documentary were making and also I'll soon put some of it up for downloads. Hi Mark. I like the cover of Imitation Life and I think the album got a bad rap after our first one. In many ways it's better than the first album but then everyone has their preference usually because of where they were and what they were doing when they first heard it. Thanks for the review. I know an Allen Albie but this isn't he is it? So happy to get in touch with my grandmother's brothers son. After this I got in touch with my grandmother's youngest brothers daughter. She happens to live in Chicago where my daughter lives. WE went to her house for tea and crumpets, well no but it was so nice to meet for the second time in my life, my cousin Mary Harris and introduce her to my daughter. Lovely time was had by all. Hi Rosmary Sarver. What college were at? I still do Idiot. It's a funny little ditty. Glad you found it on Imitation Life. We also re-did it on our album Piece of Mind. Thanks for letting me know. And there's another relative from the Jewish side. Greta Zeit. What a crazy family I come from. Highly dysfunctional. I'm lucky to still be alive and even happy. I had the Catholic side and the Jewish side...seriously. My daughter decided on the Jewish side and went to Israel 2 summers ago for birthright Israel. She stayed for a couple months. Her friend ended up marrying a guy who was one of their guards on the trip. Greta says her father was my father's mother's brother. I never even heard of him. What does that tell you? Floundering around in outer space most of me life. To Chris White. Imitation Life was not released on CD. You can buy Piece of Mind CD. That has a couple songs from Imitation Life. We, my band, went into studio in 2003 to try to get it right. Don't know if we did but we sure had fun. Sherry G. I do not remember ever doing a song called The Wild Places. I don't remember the word wild in any songs. I do not know Duncan Browne ... well I have to say...I may but I don't remember the name. Really don't remember the song. Sorry.

Robin, I really love your music.I think the cure ripped you off. Back in the 70's & early 80's me & my roomate Payson Adams followed the Chartbusters everywhere from the Rat, Storeyville, BU, and even Portland Me when after the concert your band was in a 57 chevy and Payson and I were in his 58 Caddy and we were doing donuts with you in the parking lot after the show. I have a very rare recording of yours. It is from the 45 realesed in 79 that they were giving away as a promotion at CVS in Kenmore Square It contains the original versions of "Why do you tell lies, The letter, and When things go wrong" About 10 years ago I took the 45 to a recording studio in Westport CT and had 3 cassettes digitally remastered for a whopping sum of $1200. I caught up with Payson recently and mailed him a cassette, he totally freaked out. Now I have two! It is timeless music that will always be relevant and never go out of style. I hope I can catch the Boston show in May with Payson. Craig Hansen

Being from Boston, I especially love the "5 Live" EP ;) Has anyone ever thought of putting up more lyrics to the site, especially for Imitation Life, one of my personal favorites? Keep up the great work and the great cause A Woman's Voice!
