Thankyouthankyouthankyou Mr. Webmaster for the "Idiot" Lyrics!!!! (I don't know if they were originally enclosed on the "Imitation Life" lp but if they were I lost 'em!) Anyway, I'd never been able to figure out that HOLOCAUST word!!! (sort of like the words in the Flintstone's theme, "through the...........Fred's two feet") Anyway, I do love that song and now I can really sing along with it. Yay! BTW, Is "Idiot" on another album besides "Imitation Life"? The lyrics link says "Piece of Mind" lyrics. Is that the name of a later CD? (ei, is there a way to get my favorite song on CD before "Imitation Life" is released on CD?) Oh, to live on the East Coast and partake in some of these Robin sightings....sigh..... I hope you play at the Iron Horse one of these days. We love you, Robin!

Robin, I was reading through some of the other posts. You mentioned that you lived with your grandmother in the Detroit area for a while in the 60's. I never knew that! I grew up in Southfield/Lathrup Village, MI. I lived there from about 1968 - 1981 when I moved to Boston to attend Emerson College. That explains the soul in your music. You've got some Motown running through your engine. ;) I'm sure you're busy, but you didn't answer my question about working with other artists. I could really benefit from your help and advice. Will you let me know? My music is available to listen to free on MP3.com and Soundclick. Just type in Jodee Buckley, and/or Dead Girl's Shoes. I'd love to hear what you think of my material - some of which was recorded at Active Sound! Greatly appreciated! Jodee rockchic35@hotmail.com

Greetings Robin. I was rummaging through "Turn it Up!" cd's in Northampton, MA where I live and lo and behold, I saw your cd "Piece if Mind". I had to look twice. I thought I was seeing things. I had no idea you guys were back. I gave it a listen and....wow! Ya...that's Robin Lane. I used to see you guys at Jonathan Swifts in Kenmore Square way back in the day. In fact I just ordered your first cd (had the album but sold it twenty years ago when I was a hungry college student...sorry, food comes first :)) at Amazon.com. Hey, thanks for coming back. Your new stuff sounds so reminiscent of the old stuff. Original, fresh rock and roll. I love it. Any chance you'll do the Iron Horse or the Calvin, or maybe Pearl Street? Let us know, and thanks. Thanks for the birthday wishes. I had a great day....not one bit of sadness. My friend Jocelyn Heaney took me to see her friends X. They played at Avalon and were fabulous. We went out to dinner with them before hand and I had a nice chat with John Doe over vietnamese food. I'm doing the finishing touches recording the women I worked with over the spring. Six really great songs....we'll finish this up in the fall with more women and more songs and we'll have a CD you can buy. None of the women were songwriters but wanted to write and so they did....I usually do this with Teens but women are good to work with too...and the women liked India Arie where the teens thought she was boring. I should let you know and will post it here on my site....you can buy the first "Giving Youth A Voice" from this site...only $10 plus shipping and handeling. I'm looking for funding to make this into an even bigger project one that can reach more youth and now women who have survived one kind of abuse or another. Kelly....I lived in Detroit with my grandmother back in the early 60's. I remember 8 mile road and Livernois ave. I went to school there too and I can't remember the name....some doctor's name...grammer school...could it be Louis Pasteur elementary. We lived in Sherwood Forrest. I love her house....it was small but oh so cute with brick and lilac and an alley in the back and it smelled like attic (in the attic) and basement (in the basement) Her house was on Sheffield rd. Boy do I miss my granny goose. Jeff....I'm sorry to say we do not share a birthday...Mine is June 16 and I won't mention the year....yikes!!!! Happy Birthday to you belatedly. We had a cool day here yesterday and even today but now I feel the heat creeping up on me again. I got lost in Vermont today....so so beautiful. My friend John Stout, from "The Elevator Tribe" lives there and it is he who is helping me record and mix the women and teens these days. Well....I must go work on my book....and then take my doggie Tula out for a romp.

Hey Robin- I have been a fan for a long time. Going back to my days at UMASS-Amherst and seeing you and the Chartbusters playing on campus and in the area. Unfortunatly, one of my favorite tapes, you and Chartbusters performing live, and recorded off the the King Biscuit Flour Hour has died from overusage. Living in Pennsylvania since 1981 I had lost track of you and the band. Very happy to see that you are still making music. I am looking forward to picking up your latest work. Take care.

I enjoyed the radio show Wednesday night but couldn't listen over the air. The streamed audio delivered the music but not the fidelity. Any city fans in there with a decent copy of the broadcast? I loved the loose talk and rowdy guitars. The singing was clear and close to the heart. Your songs break mine each time Robin. Asa IS famous! I'm packing for Shirley now. I'll miss Pat, but Allen totes a tuff tele too.

Hello! I first became a RL&TC fan in the late '80s, when I found their 1980 s/t debut on cassette in a bargain bin for just a couple dollars, and decided to give them a try. I'm a huge collector of '70s and '80s music in general, and knew at the time that "When Things Go Wrong" had been a minor chart hit back in the day, even though I was pretty sure I'd never heard it before. Well, it turned out the cassette was well worth the investment - I loved "WTGW" immediately, and still feel it's one of the best songs of the '80s! :-) I thought the rest of the album was great stuff, too. Within a couple years, I'd also picked up both "5 Live" and "Imitation Life" on cassette as well. But at that time, I lived in Southern California, so I never got to see the band live. :-( Then flash forward to 10 days ago, July 11, when my gf & I were visiting the music dept. at the Borders bookstore in Concord, NH (about an hour from where I now live), where she spotted a flier on the counter announcing the upcoming in-store appearance there of RL&TC on Friday, July 18, at 7:00 p.m. She recognized the band's name, and said, "Hey, isn't this the group you like?" Indeed it was, and I told her we'd definitely be heading back to the store the following week, lol - although admittedly, I was unaware that RL&TC had reunited, and just put out a new album back in February. (Unfortunately, I collect too many groups/artists to keep track of them all day-to-day, lol.) So return to the store this past Friday we did, w/ my cassette of 1980's "RL&TC" in hand. :-) When we got there, I also bought two copies of "Piece of Mind" on CD - one for me, and another for a fellow music buddy who is also a fan, but doesn't live in this area, and thus was unable to make the trek. :-( At 7:05, Asa & Pat arrived in the cafe section of the store, where the band would be giving their live acoustic performance, and began setting up. A few minutes later, my gf & I took our seats at one of the many tables in the cafe, at which time I began taking notes, as I've always liked to write down the set lists and other details at the concerts I attend. :-) Robin then walked in at 7:18, saying she'd been slowed by traffic, lol. By 7:30, a crowd of about 50 had gathered in & around the cafe - several w/ old RL&TC vinyl LPs in hand - as the three band members wrapped up their sound check. At 7:36, Robin began speaking to the audience, saying that it had been a "long journey" from her home in MA to the store in NH, and admitted that "we really don't know what we're doing" and "we're just going to wing it," as far as the evening's performance was concerned, lol. She then introduced guitarists Asa Brebner and Pat Wallace to the crowd, and then herself. At 7:39, they began the first of what would be a 15-song performance that lasted 86 minutes, including a 12-minute break near the middle. :-) This was the set list, and in this order: 01) "Kathy Lee" (from "RL&TC"; 1980), 02) "It'll Only Hurt a Little While" (from "RL&TC"; 1980), 03) "Longest Thinnest Thread" (from the "In Concert" EP; 1989), 04) "Somebody Else" (from "Piece of Mind"; 2002), 05) "The Letter" (from "Piece of Mind"; 2002), 06) "Talk to You" (from "Piece of Mind"; 2002), 07) "She Wants You Back" (from "Piece of Mind"; 2002), 08) "Last One to Know" (from "Piece of Mind"; 2002), 09) "Behind My House" (from "Catbird Seat"; 1995), 12-minute intermission, 10) "When Things Go Wrong" (from "RL&TC"; 1980), 11) "Idiot" (from "Piece of Mind"; 2002), 12) "Don't Cry" (from "RL&TC"; 1980), 13) "Troubled Man" (from "Catbird Seat"; 1995), 14) "All Fall Down" (from "Piece of Mind"; 2002), and 15) "I'm a Honky Tonk Girl" (cover of 1960 Loretta Lynn classic; not on any RL&TC album). Shortly after the music started, the audience swelled to around 70. Robin introduced "Longest Thinnest Thread" by stating that it was a "folk song" that was "not on any album," although I noticed from the discography posted on this site that she did include it on her 1989 cassette-only EP, "In Concert" (which I admittedly don't have at this time, but would love to find). Then at 7:58, just after finishing "Somebody Else", a Borders employee walked up and asked the crowd about a vehicle in the parking lot w/ its lights still on - turned out it was Robin's! (Guess it could've been an even longer trip home, lol.) W/ that potential problem fixed, Robin then went on to discuss Asa's guitar, which was beautifully decorated w/ a very impressive design that he made himself - it was very stunning to look at, and a few people in the audience later took pictures of it when the show was over. During the 12-minute break following "Behind My House", several people - including myself - went up to speak w/ Robin & Pat, and get autographs. :-) (Asa left briefly at that time.) I had Robin sign my old "RL&TC" cassette (she seemed quite impressed that I had it on tape!), and got them both to sign the two new CDs of "Piece of Mind" that I'd just bought earlier that evening. Others walked up w/ copies of the three different Warner Bros. albums on vinyl, and I noticed at least one person w/ the "Catbird Seat" CD as well. When the break was over, the group then got things rolling again w/ their all-time classic (and my personal fave), "When Things Go Wrong". Not too surprisingly, when it was over, it proved to be the song that drew the biggest reaction from the crowd. :-) In fact, when she introduced it, Robin dedicated the song to "everyone who drove from Concord to Concord to be here," lol. She then introduced "Don't Cry" by saying, "This goes out to all the babies in the audience." After performing "All Fall Down", Robin thanked the crowd and announced that their final song would be a classic by Loretta Lynn, which turned out to be "I'm a Honky Tonk Girl". The show ended at 9:05, at which time I then went up to meet Asa and get his autograph on my two "Piece of Mind" CDs. I also spoke w/ Robin again briefly. In fact, all three band members stuck around to chat w/ the fans until about 9:30. Overall, it was a great performance, and I was very glad to finally get to hear (and meet!) this classic and relatively "unknown" '80s group. :-) Thanks again, Robin, Asa, and Pat! I've since listened to the "Piece of Mind" CD all the way through, and "All Fall Down", "The Letter", and "Caught in the Act" are my personal favorites. :-) However, while listening to it, I discovered that several of the songs are out of sequence (and another missing altogether!) from the track listing that's printed on the back of the CD, as well as the disc itself. Track 6 is actually "In My World", while track 7 is "Somebody Else" (not the other way around), and track 10 is "Caught in the Act" (missing from the list altogether!), w/ "Idiot" being track 11 and "Psychotic Disorders" being track 12! Also, "Psychotic Disorders" is misspelled "Psychotic Disorder" on the disc itself. Has anybody else noticed this??? I hope these errors can be corrected! (I noticed the track order is posted correctly in the "Discography" section of this site, though.) Well, thanks for all the great music, RL&TC! :-) (Sorry for such a long post...)

Enjoyed the Borders show in PVD last Fri. I purchased the latest Cd, and it was cool how my sonic senses were treated to the same lovely voice we Borders people had heard from the cafe' couch, coming through my car stereo as I traversed the dark city streets..... What strikes me the listener, is the intimacy woven through the vocal prowess. Very few performers posess that knack. Maybe that's the way it should be... Best of luck to the entire band, and cudos on the fine production quality evident on Piece of Mind. Steve

Robin, Robin, I've been a follower of yours since the 1st album. Just recently found you on the Internet again & ordered some CD's. So glad to get your stuff again! But your audio files on here...c'mon what a joke! "Webmaster Roy"??? Try going to http://www.soundclick.com and get a page there for free! You don't have to allow free downloads if you don't want, & u can have a separate page for your solo stuff and a separate one w/The Chartbusters if you so desire... You can view my page at: <a href= "http://www.soundclick.com/kevinwayne>soundclick.com/kevinwayne<b>songs</i></b>...</a> Hope to see you joining us! Ever plan on coming to the west coast?

Hi Robin...I was just reading the liner notes from the reissue Cd of your Warner Brothers Lp. By the way, I have all three of those early 80's punky-new wave Lps Robin Lane and the Chartbusters issued and they are INCREDIBLY SPECTACULAR! Again, I was reading the liner notes on the reissue and notoiced your remarks about your vocals back then...Robin, your vocals were perfect for those albums! They couldn't have been done any better and I can't wait to buy all three of those Lps on Cd if they are all issued. I have great memories of all them. I was able to find a Cd on Rhino featuring punk bands from that era with "WHEN THINGS GO WRONG" on it a few seasons ago and bought it. Can't wait to hear "Why Do You Tell Lies" again soon...I still have all my vinyl Lps/45's...but never play them anymore. I'd like to say THANK YOU for all those great songs and Lps you issued! They are GREAT! Sincerely, Hugo

Hello People I feel like saying........to the hello people....I have to keep clicking back in order to answer everyone's questions and say thank you thank you. Web master Roy has now put "Piece of Mind" up for sale on our site. Also my 1995 "Cat Bird Seat" and then "Music from the Hot Spot"........which has songs that youth I teach wrote. Their singing the songs but I play guitar and bass and piano and Ray Mason and Alan Marcus play bass and guitar....none of these kids thought they could write a song but they did.....and their wonderful. I love teaching or helping the teens write what's on their minds, get it into a song format.....fantastic experience. I'm working on the second CD with the teens right now with some of the same people and new kids. Last message D.........We don't have any RLandtheC albums from Warner Brothers to sell. I have one each of the records we recorded. You can find them sometimes at used Record stores. Although first RlandC album was made into CD form and is for sale on Amazon and I think CD Baby. I don't own any of that old stuff........The album was recorded for WB and they own those particular recordings of those songs. I only own the writers share and half the publishing and don't get me going on this...argh! The people who publish those old songs, I won't name names, just sit on them and won't give them back.........they own them as long as the universe is in existence. Now you may ask who was my Lawyer.....????? I won't tell that one either. He now does music for some very big movies.....and Tim Jackson plays drums for the music in those movies. So Kevin...........I will be on the west coast in the near future but not with band. Where are you? I hope not in the fire. Every summer we went to Lake Arrowhead and I water skied my life away. Then sometimes winter at Big Bear. I hope they don't go up in smoke. I think webmaster Roy has fixed the audio.......Hugo thanks for liking even the drowning trout voice. That's what a dj from colorado said. My manager sent him a dead fish in the slow mail. Joe V has a good idea about VH1.......why don't they play us. Ask for Bill Flanagan...don't tell him I sent you. Coming to this message board makes me feel good. I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. We don't have any more gigs lines up and I don't know what's going to happen with that. I'm going to get busy finishing up my country type tunes so I can record out here in western ma. with The Lonesome Brothers. Keep writing to me...... love Robin

It is just so cool to know you are still kickin' Robin. One of the first few records I owned as a kid was "Robin Lane And The Chartbusters" which was played to death, back when LPs were still big. When I got the money up, being a pre-teen I bought "5 Live". Both played a HUUUUUGE impact on me musically. Now in my mid 30's I am re-living the past and surfed around and found this site, realizing there is still a future! Thank God!!! And in Southwestern Ohio of all places. I am in a band and found a great female singer who signed with a indy label. She is only 20 so I will have to expose her to your music as she most likely has never heard any of it. Our bass player had some personal issues to contend with, so he told us to look for another bassist. While he is able to do basslines on our recordings, he will be unable to do gigs for a while. But anyway "Thanks Again Robin!!!" for all you have contributed and contribute still in my musical world!!! Love Ya! Stephen

Hey Robin, it is always great to read your post's and catch up with whats going on with our favorite diva! Thank you for investing your life in the teens that you work with on the song projects. They must have a blast doing this, and I'm sure you are equally blessed by them. You've always had a compassion for people...it is a common thread through all your recordings, from "When Things Go Wrong" to "Little Bird" off the last CD. Haven't heard you mention your book lately, are you still in the process of writting or has it been put on the back burner? Oh, and its funny you should mention the aggravation you feel over the recording rights and legal mumbo jumbo over your songs. I belong to a Yahoo discussion group that includes many musicians, record store employees, authors, radio announcers...all music lovers, and that exact subject is what was being tossed about just last month. You are definetly not the only one that feels a bit of resentment over the whole situation. Anyway, thanks for your music and thanks for stopping by from time to time via this message board! Jay

What a nice surprise to find this site, and Robin Lane still singing! As a student at Vanderbilt I saw Robin and the Chartbusters for free in a tiny law school auditorium 20 years ago, was perhaps one of a half dozen or dozen people in attendance, and was blown away. Such a show put on for so few. I got to sit up front, be sung to personally, had an instant crush, was sure I'd seen the next big thing, and went out and bought all two records (which didn't begin to capture the energy of that concert, except the Five Live EP). Soon the third one came out and I proceeded to wear them all out. Then were unplayable by 1990, were out of print, unavailable on CD, and suddenly - here they are, back again! Thank you to whoever's responsible. Hope the last couple of decades have treated everyone well, and that perhaps someone tours the South again. Well, or that I find myself in Boston at just the right time!

Just read through all the old messages, and glad to see I wasn't the only one on earth who heard Puddle of Mudd doing "She Hates Me" and flashed back to Robin et al. playing "Idiot". I wonder if somehow over the years one of the songwriters managed to hear "Idiot" and subconsciously plagiarized (their bass player's from MA), or if the same great little hook just occurred naturally to different people. If Robin were greedy and litigious, it could be a replay of the Chiffons/George Harrison million-dollar lawsuit. (Except I guess it was very clear that Harrison was familiar with "He's So Fine" and the Puddle folks probably weren't born in time to hear "Idiot"). Wonder how much "She Hates Me" made compared to "My Sweet Lord"? The thought makes ME greedy! Anyway, it was nice to hear a musical reminder of 1980s Robin in a 21st-century tune. I'm so glad I got to hear her play the real thing in concert so long ago.

I met up with many tribute Stones bands and friends in Boston area and they all know of you, yet thought you were done. Well, I told them your not even close to being done and your better than Ever. Much love, Linda xxxxxxxxxxx PS: I sent Roy some pics of kids to send you...

Robin- My name is Charles Benefiel, and I am a very old friend of Jocelyn Heaney's. I am desperately trying to find her, as we lost touch many years ago. She and I were friends in the mid 80's, and I went to the academy awards after ceremony party with her and Exene. The last time I saw her was in 1997. Please pass my e-mail on to her: charlesbenefiel@yahoo.com THANK YOU for your help in this matter.

Hoooboy. I guess I haven't run the search engine for "robin lane" often enough. I had given up hope after the old official site failed to be updated for years (as far as I could tell, anyway!). Robin, I love the music old and new. I had been about to transfer my old vinyl to CD but I believe in supporting the work of an artist, so I'll be ordering from you online (is there information regarding the masters used for the CD re-issues?). I bought most of the vinyl used anyway--so I figure I owe ya! Anyway, it sounds like you've got some exciting stuff going on. Thanks for working to make your music available to music-deprived fans. :)

Hi Robin, could you forward this to Scott B.? Thanks in advance, Ben Harvey. Hi Scott, This is Ben Harvey. (I used to work at the Taylor Rental in Andover, MA with Mark Von. I used to drive the U-hauls a lot for you back in the days of the Rat and the old Frolics when Reddy Teddy was still together. Sorry to hear about Matt McKenzie. Please accept my belated condolences. Do you ever hear from John, Bugg or Joe? Anyway, I'm glad to hear that you're still playing and ok. If you get a chance, could you drop me a line as I always had a good time with you guys, especially you and John Morse. I've been wondering for a long time what happened to you guys. Take care of yourself and I hope to see one of your shows soon. Ben Harvey Sendtoben6@yahoo.com.
