I am an avid LP collector and love picking up OOP new wave stuff circa 1980-1985. Just got "Imitation Life" at record shop here in NYC and love it! I love to experiment with stuff I've never heard before (one of the benefits of collecting vinyl - it's usually cheap enough to experiment), but a lot of what one picks up ends up being garbage. Garbage this is not, love it, I'll be looking out for your other stuff Robin.

Robin,
I stumbled on your website and it brought back memories. I was one of the crew of guys that used to hang out on your front steps in Somerville. We used to bug the crap out of you. It brought back memeories of some of your shows at Jaspers in Somerville, that quaint (if basement-like can be called quaint) rock bar in Union Square. We never missed a show. and were your loudest supporters in the place. It is good to see that you are keeping on. And it goes without saying that I will be getting your cds so I can continue my job of bringing my own kids up correctly as lovers of good music.
Be well

Hey Robin,
I've been downloading tunes on my PC,(It's what us poor have to do :), and was trying to remember the name of a band I liked years ago but I couldn't recall the name. I knew it was someone and the somethings : ) but all I could remember was the (and the). I've been wracking my brain trying to remember. Not only that but I'd seen you in Lynn, Ma. on a Halloween nite long ago. I stood next to your sound man on the side of the stage so the bouncers would think I was with the band and I could get up close :). I just happened to hit the Dirty Water website thats doing some bio's on Boston bands. I saw your name and the light dawned on Marblehead. :). I recognized it instantly, finally I could give my brain a rest. Well, glad to hear your still around, down Florida now, and would love to hear you again.
Sincerely,
Joe from Lynn, Lynn, the City of Sin

Robin, God Bless ya! Keep it going. Long time listener, first time caller. I'm a local musician on the South Shore of Boston, I play and sing acoustic 12-string covers and originals, and have been hoping for years to run into the lyrics to "When Things Go Wrong". I saw the chord progressions you so very cooly (?) put down for a previous message sender and was hopin you might post the lyrics too, so I can spread that beautiful song around to some younger kids that might have never heard it, as well as get the chance to sing and play a song I have always loved, but never wanted to play an incorrect or inaccurate version of. And if your ever in Abington,Ma. on a Friday night and feel like playin for fun, stop in at J.P. Ryans on Rte 123. Its always crowded and fun, I have been there every Fri. for over a year now. Thanks and God Bless. ...........An old fan....Bob Cushman

Robin – just wanted to thank you again for an AMAZING evening here in our home in NH. All of our guests are still commenting that it was excellent and most memorable, that we outdid ourselves. All, thanks to you! You made everyone feel comfortable, your spoken-word really sent us back to another place and time, and your performance was so entertaining. Greatly exceeded our expectations for a great night! We would love to have you up here again, next summer, and this time for an outdoor concert! Thank you!

Robin,
This is your Somerville friend again. It was Central street, mid to late 70s. We were a bunch of teenaged boys hanging around in front of the store across the street. Why this is actually important I really have no idea. Anyway, I am just glad to see you are still out there. I played your cd for my kids and you have a new 14 year old female fan. The little bugger kept my cd too.
Be well

What a trip to run across this website! I recently discovered that Robin's first LP had been reissued a couple of years ago on CD, and bought a copy. Still have the vinyl version somewhere in the attic ... I have a vivid recollection of the summer of 1980 when I first heard it. I went out for the first time with a young woman who later became my first wife ... she invited me over to her house and put on a promotional copy of the LP that someone had given her. Well, you can tell when I say she was my first wife, the relationship didn't quite last, but my happy memories of the album have! Good to know that you're still around, and hope all the Charbusters are doing well.

Hi Robin, I was first turned onto Robin Lane and the Chartbusters in a very difficult part of my life. I was 21 and stationed in Germany in 1983. As a Combat Engineer we were constantly on alert when we were deployed to southern Germany to build some tank pads. We worked 4AM to 10 PM six days a week for around 9 months. Needless to say..."insanity conquered by insanity". We used to steal away in the middle of the night...get stoned and jam out to your tunes. Your music helped us through some rough times and quite literally soothed our souls! Always meant to look ya up...just wanted to say...your jams did make the difference in the life of this cat. Be happy you made someone happy! Squirrel332@netscape.com

Robin,
I don't know why I never wrote to you before, but my oldest daughter(will be 16 in October) is named Robin Lane Marcus. While she is named Robin because her mother looked out her window when she found out she was pregnant and saw a Robin on the windowsill, and her mothers late fathers middle name was Lane.
When my brother Greil (the author) heard her name he said, "oh, you named her after Robin Lane and The Chartbusters." While that wasn't true, it would be fine because in, fact I used to have your Bezerkeley Records relases and loved them.

There's definitly a great story here.........maybe you can get it to him if he's open. Lori and Carol so nice to hear from you all always.
I'm working on another Woman's Voice CD. Trauma survivors of chilhood sexual abuse, domestic abuse, substance abuse mental illness.....all these harmful things we do to ourselves as adults stem from our childhood of coarse.....and then we put ourselves in harms way and dangerous situations. I'm trying to give back as much as I can..helping women gain empowerment through songwriting, helping them turn their pain into songs. The Woman's Voice program beginning in January will be featured on the NPR show The Infinite Mind. They became very busy helping Katrina survivors as did all national
organazations.

Robin, I love your new album and have been a fan since the first WB album. I sold a bunch of Heart Connection when that came out through Dan Russell-haven't talked with him for years! Recently discovered a batch of tapes in the archives here that includes a few songs that seemed destined for Imitation Life but with the exception of Idiot and Send Me An Angel they appear unissued-like "Oh God". Any background on this? (Speaking love, would love to see that album reissued as well...)
I would love to do a living room show, but since I'm way out here in Oregon, I don't see that happening. So many friends in Boston though, so someday I may make the trek there.
Thanks again for giving of yourself so freely. Nice to discover this board, and your website.

Robin Lane & The Chartbusters remains one of my faves. Recently had to buy a replacement cd because I wore out the vinyl. Love catbird seat as well. I have a question. Did Robin Lane sing a song with a chorus that went "...and I'd sell my soul for total control over you" ? This is a song that beautifully haunts the recesses of my mind and I need to find it so that I can plya it about 1000 times. Thanks for the help.

I read the message from Cush.........I'm truly sorry this is a not very well attended site. The webmaster Roy is always busy but does help me a great deal and as for me.........well.........I do forget to come here as I'm busy too with oh so many things.......trying to make a dime, trying to make a dollar. I wish I had the time to come here everyday and respond or put in new information.....or had a possee of worker bees that kept me abreast of all the things that needed to be attended to. I love that you all write to me and are fans of my music. I'm truly grateful so please forgive what may appear as my lack of interest. I don't know how life got so complicated. I try to keep it simple, that's why I live in the way country with a view of meadows and a few deer now and then and an occasional coyote howling at the moon. Hello to Randy in Oregon and Bob Lake
Hello to Lee roberts in Colorado.....would love to visit Oregon and Colorado, never been to either of these beautiful states. Hello to Marty and Ryan I will most likely have answered your email by the time you read this.
I'm doing a few House concerts/living Room performances.............love them. They are so intimate and fun and I love reading from my book (not finished/not published) and then playing my songs and making up new ones on the spot with lyrics contributed by audience.
I continue working with women survivors of trauma. A Woman's Voice is truly having a healing effect for participants. Check out the new album.......and the first one for that matter.
well.........it's time to hit the hey and read my new book....."Pack of Two" by Caroline Knapp
Merry Christmas and Merry and Happy anything else you all celebrate.....
May we get the heck out of Iraq next year and may something be revealed, that can't be concealed, exposing our Emperor for what he and his cronies truly are.
