A songwriting and recording seminar for youth.
THE PROGRAM
Giving Youth a Voice is a 12 week CD recording program conceived by Robin Lane
to serve youth on their own terms.
In this program youth explore songwriting in various media as a means for
personal empowerment and improved connectedness with their peers, families and
community.
Through the songwriting and recording process, youth will express their
creativity and emotions. Robin guides the youth as they explore and discuss
ideas that concern them, to consider their relationships, and to develop
personal and group statements that reflect their unique experiences.
The young people learn to use our own voices, write lyrics, compose music and
record their songs.
Together they create a professionally produced CD that each participant will go
home with as a reminder of the time spent and their accomplishment.
The youth also create the artwork and graphics for the CD.
A final wrap up party will serve to celebrate the conclusion of the
collaboration and the work will end with a performance by the participants.
ROBIN LANE
Robin Lane, a nationally known singer/songwriter has introduced an exciting new
program.
Her mission is to help transform young lives.
Robin does this by helping a small group of young people write, perform, and
record their own unique music CD. Robin creates a supportive environment where
Teens feel free to explore their thoughts and feelings through words and music,
develop new skills and a sense of accomplishment.
There is much research that supports this fact: arts education improves the
ability to learn.
Music and musical expression is an important part of the youth experience,
and Robin can help shape that experience to be a positive one through the
process of songwriting.
The Brick House in Turners Falls was the site for her first local seminar,
and the CD
Music from The Hot Spot
is now sold out.
Robin has facilitated Giving Youth A Voice at Northfield Mount Hermon School,
Academy at Charlemont, The Learning Exchange, Franklin Park in Dorchester,
among other schools.
